Due to this model connection between all types of a computer system is possible. It has seven separate layers but each layer is related to each other. Each layer describes a part of the process of transferring data across a network. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model defines a networking framework to implement protocols in layers, with control passed from one layer to the next.

It has been developed by ISO – ‘ International Organization of Standardization ‘, in the year 1984. It is a 7 layer architecture with each layer having specific functionality to perform.
